We’ve all seen that guy . You’re behind him in line to get your morning coffee. He’s cracking jokes in the cafeteria with his friends. You even catch him on the way home. Each time you see him, his hair has the same height and volume as it did in the morning. Ugh - that guy’s annoying. But he's not really. You just want a hairstyle that lasts all day too.
What’s his secret? How does he get a hairstyle that lasts while you wear a hat to hide the bird’s nest that your hair morphed into?
That guy doesn’t have any super powers (I don’t think. Don’t quote me on that.) He just knows how to get his hairstyle to go the distance. Follow these 7 tips and you can get a long-lasting hairstyle too:
Having hair that lasts all day starts with getting the right haircut. Start by getting your hair thinned out so that it’s lighter. If you style your hair front to back, it helps to cut the top of your hair so that it gradually gets shorter towards the back.
The best way to get the right haircut is to talk to your barber or stylist. Ask questions and let him (or her) know the look you’re gunning for.
Blow drying your hair adds volume AND can create a new “natural position” for your hair when it dries.
When you blow dry your hair, start with the warm setting until it’s dry. NEVER use the hottest setting. It helps to have a product that protects your hair from heat damage (sorry, shameless plug), but using the highest setting can do a number on your hair. Follow-up the warm setting by using the cold setting. The cold air helps keep the hair in that position even more.
BONUS blow drying tip: Blow dry your hair in the opposite direction of where it normally grows to get more volume. More volume = longer lasting hairstyle .
When you use a styling product before blow drying, you can get extra hold and more control. You’ll also end up using less of your styling product after blow drying which will give you a more natural look.
When you’re picking a pre-styler, choose a lightweight product. A mousse, volumizing spray or lightweight wax work as great pre-stylers - especially for fine or thin hair.
Thick hair will often need a thicker and heavier product to keep the hair in place. Guys with thin or fine hair will want a lightweight product that won’t weigh their hair down.
Think about the kind of hair you have and do some research. Try out some different products and see what works best for you and your hair.
No matter the hair product that you use, you want to make sure you apply it to your roots instead of just the top of your hair. You could end up weighing your hair down and deflating your hairstyle.
You also have to make sure you’re not putting globs and globs of hair product in your hair because that could weigh it down too. So experiment like a mad scientist to find the right amount to make sure your hairstyle lasts all day .
Keep in mind that most hairsprays will harden a bit. It’ll help keep your hair in place, but you’ll have a tough time re-styling.
I know your hair is sexy and all, but that doesn’t mean you should be playing around with it all day. Fix it and re-style it if you absolutely have to. But keep in mind that you’re getting oil and dirt from your hands into your hair. This will just weigh your hair down and prevent your hairstyle from lasting all day.
So there you have it. As you can see, there are lots of ways to get your hair to stay in place all day. It takes work. But it’ll be worth it when you have a hairstyle that lasts from your morning coffee to dinner, while you turn some heads and make a few strangers jealous.
How long does it actually hold?
In our tests Original Styling Meraki held for between 10 hours and 2 days, depending on the hair type. We have tested the product on a dozen knowledgeable community members and the results were that the product held for significantly longer than other popular products. That being said, keep in mind that there are tons of hair types so hold might vary depending. Some may give more or less hold than the people tested so far.
How is this better than the other products?
This product took months of work to create exactly what the online style community asked for. Original Styling Meraki is as close to the consensus of an ideal product as we could possibly make it. I mean for real… it took us 5 different teams of chemists to come up with a product we’re proud to present.
Will it work for my hair type?
Original has been tested on wavy, straight, thick, thin, coarse and fine hair. It has proven to provide all day hold for the hair types tested. If your hair type is particularly extreme, it may not have been tested yet. Although not tested, there is a chance Original won’t work on balding, thinning, or naturally very very thin hair. Standard thin hair was tested and it performed great for this hair type. While likely not being perfect for 100% of hair types, Original is more versatile than all or nearly all high hold products for hair types.
How long does it take to apply?
Thanks to it’s naturally based components, Original Styling Meraki is considerably less sticky than many other high hold products. That being said, brief stickiness may be felt when applying to thicker hair. Any sticky feeling felt upon application will disappear within 10 minutes of the product setting into the hair. It does not leave your hair feeling dry or crispy.
Will it pull on my hair? Is it sticky?
The product does not significantly pull on hair when applied. It is a high hold product so you will feel it during application, but it is more creamy than sticky. Any sticky feeling felt upon application will disappear within 10 minutes of the product setting into the hair.
Are there any harmful chemicals?
Of course not! We don’t condone harmful chemicals and therefore would never release a damaging formula. Original has many plant extracts and is a NATURALLY based product.
Does the product wash out easily and is it water soluble?
It’s not 100% water soluble, but it does come out of the hair easily when washed with shampoo. During testing the product washed out with shampoo for everyone. Some people found that it came out with just water, but some people needed shampoo. The product is water based and behaves like other water based products.
Does it appear greasy or shiny?
Original Styling Meraki has a matte finish, it is not greasy or shiny
How do I know how much I should use?
This depends entirely on your hair type. You will need to experiment as thin hair will require less and thicker hair will need more. It is a relatively strong formula that does not require more than your average strong hold product. We recommend to start with a small amount and add more as needed.
